Protecting, improving and celebrating the heritage and landscape of Tomintoul & Glenlivet

A wide range of local residents and organisations are involved in the Tomintoul & Glenlivet Landscape Partnership, a £3.6 million Heritage Lottery Funded project that will deliver 20 projects over four years to 2020.

The aim of the Landscape Partnership is to use the rich heritage of this area to promote rural regeneration in this distinctive place. The vision is for the communities of Tomintoul and Glenlivet to share and celebrate the hidden heritage of the area, to improve and enhance the landscapes, that will support skills for young people and develop opportunities in the long term for people living and visiting the area.

 

 

The range of projects being delivered include the stabilisation of Blairfindy castle, restoration of Scalan mills, refurbishment of the former museum – now the Discovery Centre, Community History project, Schools Heritage project, Community Cultural Heritage Project, Dark Skies Project, Peesie Project to create more wetland habitat for wading birds, River Avon habitat improvements, wildlife grant scheme,  access improvements, developing education resources, training and skills and various interpretation and digital projects.

There are 21 organisations that make up the partnership; the lead partners include the Tomintoul & Glenlivet Development Trust, Cairngorms National Park Authority, Crown Estate Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Historic Environment Scotland. Several others support the delivery of projects including Cairngorms Learning Partnership, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds,  Spey Catchment Initiative, Tomintoul & Glenlivet Wildlife Group, Glenlivet Distillery.
